Memorial Day on Boston Common

Boston honored its veterans on Memorial Day with a beautiful display of American flags along the base of the Civil War monument in the center of the Boston Common. Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day and has been celebrated in the United States since the Civil War. The flag display was sponsored by the Massachusetts Military Heroes Fund, with each flag representing a Massachusetts service member who died in the line of duty.¹
